CellFiber Co., Ltd., a biotech company pioneering next-generation cell culture technology, has announced that its partner, Locus Cell Co., Ltd. (Locus Cell), has established a commercial-scale, manufacturing process for umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stromal cells using CellFiber® technology.
The process has now been further upgraded to automated production with the official inauguration of Locus Cell’s Zhubei automated smart factory. This milestone demonstrates the viability of CellFiber® technology as a scalable manufacturing platform for cell-based medicines.
CellFiber® is CellFiber’s proprietary next-generation cell culture platform designed to enable the efficient production of high-quality cells. The technology is based on an encapsulation method that forms tube-like alginate hydrogel structures, which protect cells during culture. Compared with conventional methods, cells cultured using CellFiber® technology show improved preservation of cell function,viability, and enhanced cell uniformity. With the inauguration of the Zhubei automated smart factory—the largest smart facility of its kind in Asia—the manufacturing process using CellFiber® has been integrated into an automated production line.
CellFiber will continue to work with Locus Cell to advance the deployment of CellFiber® technology in the Asia Pacific market and contribute to the widespread adoption of regenerative medicine.
